Collins Radio 220-410 Mhz Antenna Coupler
1/4th Part of a CU-547 ground radio Antenna Coupler
When I first found this coupler, I thought it was a very exotic 4 channel tuner. When I got it home, I discovered it was a very rare UHF coupler made for the Air Force to use in a ground control station. It had 4 transmitter inputs each with its own direction coupler, an SWR meter, and a power combiner to feed all four couplers into a very large output connector and on up to the UHF antenna.
Only, Rockwell Collins had repurposed this one to be a pair of individual UHF antenna couplers by removing the power combiner and adding output feed stubs and connector/cables to each of them. For this two work, they each needed an output feed-line coupler to replace the power combiner connection. They got those by taking the other two couplers apart and using their input feed line coupler parts for the remaining two outputs. This left two functional couplers and some parts.
To make it more manageable, I separated the two remaining couplers. This unit has a high quality UHF directional coupler on its input, it has two meter feeds that can be used for tuning. The two knobs on the front are a main (30 times rotation) and a fine tuning Vernier knob below. This unit has not been disassembled other than the temporary removal of the outer case pieces so calibration and tuning should still be good.
The UHF directional coupler has forward and reflected outputs which were monitored using a 200 micro-amp meter and selector switch.
The serial number PP-2 would indicate that this was the pilot production #2 unit.
